Summary of the visit to Spain (30th March to 5th April 2014)

Our guests from Poland,Hungary,Italy and Turkey arrived in Valencia  on a Sunday morning ,30th March 2014. They were received  at the airport by  the Spanish students, parents and some teachers involved in the Project. There ,they had a short  tour around the city and  a welcome meal, and finally they arrived in Albacete in the evening.

Next day we had the official welcome at our school” Alto de los molinos” by the headmaster followed by a guided school visit.

Soon after, there was a concert at the Music Room. Most  Spanish students played some modern songs conducted by Francisco Román,Music teacher and coordinator of the Project. All guests and some other teachers from our school attended the show.

Around 10,30 everything was ready for the presentations at the Multitask Room. All countries showed their videos, their stories, their songs and dances so that we could understand better one another. The order was as follows: Italy,Hungary,Spain,Poland and Turkey. Students from every country did the presentations. At the last school period students attended a lesson  with their peers and teachers met to set some guidance lines up for the rest of the week.

In the evening,we visited a Pottery workshop where the owner showed us the way tradicional pottery is made. Then, teachers had free time to go around the city and students enjoyed their host family time.

On Tuesday morning all guest students, guest teachers and two of us had a trip  to Casas de Lázaro for the textile mill visit, which was really interesting. In the afternoon there was the trip to Chinchilla, one of the oldest villages in our area. After the town visit with its old castle we went to the pottery factory and to the pottery museum, very interesting as well.

After lunch,in the evening, we had a nice walk  around the city center. Alberto, the History teacher ,was our local guide. He told us about the most relevant places of interest such as “the Cathedral” and “Lodares Passageway”,not to forget the narrow streets and the beautiful buildings in the main street. We also visited the Knife Museum. The history of the knife and the history of Albacete go hand in hand. Afterwards ,students came back with their host families and teachers had dinner together to exchange first impressions.

Wednesday morning was lesson time for our guest students and working time for the teachers. An important part of the Project consists of being aware of our different ways of teaching and learning in every country, which enrich us.

At midday we visited a Esparto Grass Workshop at” José Saramago Centre.” After a complete explanation about the process we had the opportunity of making our own esparto grass staff,it was really funny.

The evening was different for students and teachers. Students had some host family time and teachers visited the Traditional Brewery “Quijota”. The owners were very kind and showed us the whole process of producing beer. We also tasted the three types that they produce.

In the evening teachers had a special soiree including dinner and tradicional music and dance. We had a really good time because everybody was absolutely involved and participated in singing and dancing, althouh clumsily!

On Thursday, students attended three more lessons until the break time and teachers had a meeting to discuss about some methodological criteria and assesment.

In the afternoon all guests visited the Bobbin lace and embroidery Workshops at “José Saramago centre” again.

Early in the evening teachers met for the certificates of attendance and then everybody had free time. Later, we had our last dinner together with teachers. We tasted some tradicional “tapas” from Albacete that everybody enjoyed. We talked about our experience together and planned the next visit to Hungary.

Friday was a kind of Holiday. Students and teachers spent  the whole day on the coast. They visited the town of Altea, had lunch at the Sailing Club, walked along the promenade at sunset, visited a lighthouse and Benidorm beach, too. It was amazing.

Finally, our guests left our city during the weekend.
